Making East King County more livable for us all

Family of three: mom, dad, baby sonLow-income families and individuals make up nearly one in every 10 households in East King County, yet affordable housing units make up less than one in 100 available homes. Imagine Housing is helping to fill this wide gap.

Because immigrants, refugees and people of color make up a disproportionate number of our neighbors in need, Imagine Housing enriches the diversity of our Eastside community by giving people of diverse cultures the opportunity to thrive here. When people know they have a stable place to live, they can better focus on their families, their education, their jobs and their community – reducing their dependence on public services, breaking the cycle of generational poverty and ensuring a stronger community for us all.

The support we offer to our residents enables them to improve their abilities to be self-supporting contributors to their families and the community. For example, in 2012, Imagine Housing provided over 100 hours of trainings and workshops for adult residents in everything from financial management to résumé writing to parenting.

“The challenge we have is making sure we have a variety of housing opportunities available for all income levels. That’s not easy these days with the housing prices the way they are. That’s why it’s so important for us to have partnerships with organizations like Imagine Housing that can figure out ways to be creative in coming up with viable solutions for affordable housing on the Eastside.”
